Book Ends :: sdnE kooB

Image
I’ve put together an entry for Canteen’s next Sweet Jam . This month’s challenge: Book Ends::sdnE kooB I’m not entirely happy with how it turned out. If I had more time I would redo the right one, but entries are due tomorrow so it will have to do. Word is the CBC might even be covering the event.

More monsters in the Market

Image
Following my recent discovery of sticker street art in my neighbourhood (which was mentioned on everydaytrash.com !), Chris and I decided to go monster hunting. It appears that the Byward Market has been inundated with these fanciful faces.

The Great Glebe

Image
Chris and I woke up bright and early after Friday’s party . We probably could have used some more time to recover from the previous night’s mayhem, but there was no way I was going to miss out on our Saturday plans. Saturday was the annual Great Glebe Garage Sale . We spent all morning pulling my little red wagon through the crowded streets, checking out all the deals and wishing we lived in such a cool neighbourhood. We found some really great pieces and hauled it all home on the wagon. I got new and improved living quarters for Nim and Noi. It’ll need some tlc, but the girls are going to love having all that extra space. Cost: $2 We also found the coolest leather suitcase I’ve ever seen. The previous owner’s last name started with a Z! I can’t wait to do something awesome with it. Cost: $10 I also grabbed several wooden frames for silk screening for 25 cents each, a couple clocks to use in my records for a dollar a piece, and Chris found a styling silk tie for a two

Hooswarming

Image
To celebrate my new roommate’s 27 th birthday, and me becoming his 27 th roommate, we hosted a Hooswarming party on Friday. Good times were had by all, but unfortunately most of the photographic evidence is not suitable for the interwebs (and it’s taking all my willpower not to post some). Most popular drink: Do jello shots count as drinks even if they’re not liquid? Coming in a close second was anything drunk out of gummy bear shot glasses (really made from gummy bears!) . Last minute surprisingly cool decoration: Bar display thrown together from random stuff kicking around the apartment. What does it say about me if I can instantly produce mirrored tiles, glowing stir sticks and black lights?

TV progress

Image
As per a previous post , I had big plans to steampunk my broken television . To fit with the rest of my living room’s look (or at least what I would like the living room to look like) I decided to go for something a little less Wild Wild West , a little more Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow . I started with a broken tv and a cheap ikea-esque tv stand I got from some friends when they moved last summer. fabulously free At first I didn’t have much luck while looking to buy some cool table legs but then I found a great little end table on kijiji to give it some midcentury flair. midcentury mod kijiji find Chris and I attached the two pieces together and then spray painted the whole thing a sexy high-gloss black. hot We wanted to fit in a bunch of electronic stuff along with the television. It was a tight squeeze but by taking everything out of the cases, we were able to get it in. taking things apart putting it all together After securing everything inside the cabinet, we traced ou

Faces in my neighbourhood

I’m loving this awesome street art. I have no idea who’s behind it, but I’d like to thank whoever it is for making me smile.

So in love

I can hardly believe it but Chris and I have been dating for a year now. Yesterday he met me for lunch and we rode the Ferris wheel in Major’s Hill park.
