Wedding Wednesday: Finished Felt and Button Bouquets

Image
Photo by Colleen Johnson.  byfieldpitman.com Putting together the bouquets for myself and my matron of awesome was one of my favourite wedding projects. I posted before about ordering the kit from Princess Lasertron , starting the flowers and even bundling them while I was in Whitehorse for job training before the wedding. Photo by Ben Welland.  byfieldpitman.com I used the kit as a starting point and added as many personal touches as I could squeeze in. If you look at the photos closely you might spot  zippers and studs leftover from my Bebop costume ,  Beau's Beer ribbon,  mesh from the suitcase that travelled the world with me when I was a teenager, buttons from Chris' father's military uniforms and his uncle's fire fighter uniform,  bits of bicycle inner tube rubber leftover from making armour,  ribbon collected from all sorts of events and gifts, tulle snipped from tutus, aluminium roses, feathers and bits of jewe...

Wedding Wednesday: Decorations Progress

1,440 or so metal petals later, we've finished the pop cans roses! Our friend Andrea was incredibly awesome to help us with the metal flowers. We're pretty lucky to have some really fantastic friends. Derek and Alicia also came over to help us with the decorations. They managed to squeeze some time in, amidst planning their Trans-Siberian Railway adventure , to help us cut fabric for bunting.

Wedding Wednesday: Metal Flowers

Image
Metal Flowers I've been saving up our aluminium cans to use them for a few different wedding projects. The first thing I'm using them for is pop can roses. The metal roses are made pretty much the same way as the giant paper flowers we made for Promdemonium last year. First I clean off the cans and remove some of the paint, then I trace and cut out the heart shaped petals before bending and attaching them to a wire stem. I get about 1 flower per can and while it does take some time, it's a good way to keep my fingers busy while we're enjoying netflix.

I'm trying out some of my ideas for new decorations for Promdemonium 2012. I more or less followed the instructions from Green Wedding Shoes to make a giant paper rose. This is my first attempt, and while there's definitely room for improvement, I'm pretty happy with it.
