Caution clowns ahead! Spotted this sign on my way home from work the other day.

We spotted this Free Box on Bay Street. While perhaps not as artistic as the beautifully crafted swap boxes you used to see around town, I think using a clear waterproof container is actually quite smart. Unfortunately the person who installed it told us that people have mostly been taking and not leaving things, or filling it with cigarette butts and garbage.

It's starting to get a little chilly in Ottawa, so it was nice to see that someone gave this sign post a cute sweater to wear for the winter.

Yarn bombing has got to be the cutest form of graffiti ever. I just love the look of the street signs and trees in my neighbourhood snug under a knitted cozy.   Do you suppose this might be the work of the same artists who did the Spins & Needles installation at Winterlude ? I'm a little jealous of the knitters I know. I love how they can be watching tv or enjoying drinks with friends and making socks or even  thongs at the same time.

While I miss the monsters on my old walk, I was delighted to find this on my way home.

I have a sneaky suspicion that whoever is behind the fabulous new window display at Canteen is also responsible for my favourite Ottawa street art .

The sleepy civil servant city that it is, Ottawa doesn’t really know how to party. But you have to give the capital props for trying really hard on Canada Day. Some fun things I did this July 1st : watched the Snowbirds flyby from my roof ogled some cool crafts in Major’s Hill Park Trying on a very expensive wool mask by Denise Richard Papier maché awesomeness by Marie-Josée Brideau marveled at the eclectic collection of buskers hung out on the Hill sporting patriotic colours body painting by Chris watched the fireworks!

I wish I was friends with Katie Soloker . The beautiful and bubbly photographer/artist/performer always makes me smile with her work . If you need a little pick me up, I recommend reading her blog, Colour Me Katie . I’d be amazed if you don’t immediately fall in love with her too. Check out a documentary on her street art here .

Following my recent discovery of sticker street art in my neighbourhood (which was mentioned on everydaytrash.com !), Chris and I decided to go monster hunting. It appears that the Byward Market has been inundated with these fanciful faces.

I’m loving this awesome street art. I have no idea who’s behind it, but I’d like to thank whoever it is for making me smile.
