Cinco de Mayo

Image
On Friday I went to Spins & Needles ' Cinco de Mayo Pinata Party with our friend Jess. As always, it was a lot of fun! When I brought home the pinata I made, Chris was pretty excited about smashing it. So smash it he did.

Everyone's a Winner

January's Spins and Needles event was a lot of fun! Pressed is a great venue for that sort of thing and this month's project was the perfect combination of easy and awesome. Chris wasn't able to make it because he wasn't feeling well, so I made him his own felt pennant to cheer him up.

Fun Little Things

Image
I've been sick and the weather has been suitably miserable, so I've barely left the house for the last 4 days. Back when I was feeling better and it felt like summer, we went to the Punk Ottawa Flea Market and picked up these awesome pink cuff links. It was especially awesome that they were only $5. Something else that was awesome: the Spins and Needles Pixel Party . Perler beads are still as much fun as they were when I was 10, maybe even more so when you throw in beer and good company. Chris made that little Zelda heart, it's my favourite.

Before you judge my sewing, remember it was dark and I was drunk

my monster Last Friday, Chris and I went to the Spins and Needles Monster Party and made some monsters. Sewing, by hand, in a dim bar, after a few pints of Beau's... let's just say it wasn't my greatest craftsmanship but we had a lot of fun.  Chris' monster I think the James Street Pub is a great location for craft parties. Hopefully Spins and Needles throws some more events there soon!

Cozy graffiti

Image
Yarn bombing has got to be the cutest form of graffiti ever. I just love the look of the street signs and trees in my neighbourhood snug under a knitted cozy.   Do you suppose this might be the work of the same artists who did the Spins & Needles installation at Winterlude ? I'm a little jealous of the knitters I know. I love how they can be watching tv or enjoying drinks with friends and making socks or even  thongs at the same time.

Wintery fun

Image
Winterlude kicked off today with fireworks and the usual NCC pomp and ceremony. Chris and I went down to Confederation Park to check out the ice sculptures after work. Spins & Needles had a awesome tree cozy installation set up in the park.  I also loved the "urban art" sculptures made from trash.

Silk screening fun

Image
Yesterday I took an awesome silk screening workshop run by the Spins & Needles people. one of my workshop creations I had a blast and am now itching to try it again at home. Is there really such a thing as too many Banksy rat t-shirts?
