We've been super busy with renovations and YuKonstruct makerspace projects. I'll try to get some blog updates together soon. In the meantime, here are some cute photos of Axel all dressed up for Valentine's Day.

Today is the last day of my maternity leave. Somehow it feels like its been forever and yet almost no time at all since that crazy day when I was cleaning up my desk . I'm excited to be going back to work but also a little sad to be missing out on all the fun times Chris and Axel are going to have together during the day. This weekend Chris and I celebrated the 7th anniversary of our first date. We were down in BC, as we managed to add some time with my family on to a medical trip. Axel needed to be fitted for a helmet in Vancouver to correct a flat spot on his head, so he'll be sporting some stylish headgear in his photos for the next 6 months. Between teething and coming down with a bit of a cold, Axel hasn't been totally his usual happy self over the last few days. But it's still going to be pretty tough to say goodbye to this smiley little baby tomorrow morning.

Because the rules in Ontario are pretty strict, the wedding we wanted wouldn't be legal. So a year ago today, Chris and I were legally wed in the Ottawa City Hall. I was still on crutches thanks to broken toes and only our parents and a few close friends were there. Our awesome friend Mike was kind enough to take some photos and film the ceremony.   While the legal wedding was really just a formality for Chris and I (the wedding with all our friends and family is what mattered to us), tonight we celebrated our anniversary because Chris will be working on what we consider our real anniversary. We went for a delicious dinner at Antoinette's and talked about much much our lives have changed in the last year. It's been an incredible year!

This past weekend Chris and I celebrated the sixth anniversary of our first date. It's been an incredible 6 years, but this past year has been especially eventful.   So much has happened since I posted that infographic a year ago! We got married, we moved across and the country, we bought our first house and now we're about to have a baby. I can't imagine what new adventures are in store for us in the year ahead.

This week Chris and I celebrated the fifth anniversary of our first date. Because we're such dorks, we decided to summarize our relationship in an infographic.

It's hard to beat last year's Valentine's Day but today was pretty awesome. First, some of my  colleagues at work got me chocolates and balloons. Chris insisted we wear the photobooth pirate hats Then Chris took me to the Diefenbunker for dinner and a movie. While sitting at a table with strangers in a cafeteria 75 feet underground might not sound terribly romantic, it was a lot of fun. I think my favourite part was the delicious chocolates from the Swan at Carp . Who knew the radioactive symbol could look so cute?

Sally glamour shot It's become a bit of a tradition for Chris and I to host a slideshow party after we return from Burning Man ( you can read about the last one here ). In addition to showing off the pictures from our travels, we try to give our guests a taste of what it was like to be there. This year that meant PBR, pickletinis and Indian tacos. We used The Pioneer Woman's fry bread recipe and the results were pretty tasty, although nothing we could make at home could really compare to food served out of a sketchy roadside trailer. Midway through the shots of scenery and roadside attractions, we stopped the slideshow to show a little video of what it was like to be stuck at the side of the road waiting out a tornado warning... It was a fun way to surprise our friends with the news that Chris and I are getting married! Clearly I didn't know which hand the ring is supposed to go on

Chris and I have now been together for 4 years and it feels like so much longer. In a good way! I don't know how I ever got along before meeting him since so much of the awesomeness in my life happened after he showed up. photo from Chris' 30th birthday party

Forget roses and candlelit dinners, Chris knows the best way to win my heart: skating on the canal followed by a trip to Ikea. Chris met me after work and we walked around the Winterlude ice sculptures, while enjoying some beaver tails, before going to lace up our skates. After skating most of the way home, we headed for Canada's biggest Ikea. The giant new store was all but deserted since most couples seemed to have plans that involved spending more than $5 on their dinner. Their loss, really.   this is the man I love I hope you all had an equally awesome Valentines Day (although I admit it might be hard to have had as good a day as we did).

Inspired by the transit scroll craze and the awesome Beatles lyrics art over at Cozy Little Cave and in this house tour , I made Chris a present from some junk I had lying around the house. I took a broken Ikea frame I got from a friend,  stretched an old pillow case from the rag bin over it, stapled it down, and then painted the whole thing black. A little bit of stenciling later, voila!

Two years ago today, Chris walked into my life, 15 minutes late. I'm so glad I stuck around to wait for him.

Wow. As if winning a prize in the Instructables Halloween Contest wasn't enough, Manny over at My Disguises has written a post about my costumes that has me positively blushing. Add the fact that Chris bought me flowers yesterday for no reason, and I'm feeling very loved. Thank you to everyone who voted for my costumes on instructables.com and to Manny for saying such nice things about me! I can hardly believe it but Chris and I have been dating for a year now. Yesterday he met me for lunch and we rode the Ferris wheel in Major’s Hill park.
